What We Believe

About Us

We are Christian

Plenty of people believe in a 'god' or 'gods'...

What makes Christianity distinctive is that we worship the God of the Bible — the God who is uniquely known through Jesus Christ. We don't worship a distant, unknowable 'higher being,' but the One God who exists as three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This might sound complicated, but it's central to who God is and how he relates to us. The Father sends the Son to rescue us. The Son becomes human, dies, and rises again. The Spirit brings us into relationship with God. All three are fully God, working together in perfect unity.

As a church, we hold to the historic Christian faith expressed in the Ancient Creeds (the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds) and the Chalcedonian formula. These statements, forged in the early centuries of the church, carefully summarize what the Bible teaches about Jesus, fully God and fully human, and the nature of God as Three-in-One

We are Evangelical

'Evangelical' comes from the Greek word for 'gospel,' which means 'good news'—the message of Jesus at the heart of the Bible. We stand with Christians throughout history who have been committed to these core evangelical beliefs:

The Cross – Jesus died on the cross to deal with our sin and reconcile us to God. He took the punishment we deserved so we could be forgiven and restored to relationship with God.

The Bible – The Old and New Testaments are God's inspired, trustworthy, and authoritative word to us. They're clear enough to understand, sufficient for life and faith, and powerful to change us. That's why Bible teaching is central to our church life.

Mission – Jesus commanded his followers to tell others the good news about him. This is core to who we are and what we do as a church.

Conversion – Becoming a Christian means personally turning from sin and putting your trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and new life.

We stand in the tradition that flows from the gsixteenth-century Reformation, when Christians recovered key biblical truths about salvation and the Christian life. This shapes how we understand:

Salvation: It's All God's Work

We believe salvation is entirely God's gracious gift to undeserving people, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone:

  • Christ Alone – Jesus is the only mediator between God and humanity. His life, death, and resurrection are the sole basis for our salvation.

  • Grace Alone – We can't earn God's favour. Salvation is a free gift given to sinners who deserve judgement.

  • Faith Alone – We're saved by trusting in Christ, not by our good works or religious effort.

  • Glory to God Alone – Since salvation is entirely God's work, all praise and glory belong to him alone.

Authority: The Bible is Our Final Word

  • Scripture Alone – The Bible is our ultimate authority for faith and life. While tradition, reason, and experience can be helpful, they must always submit to Scripture.

  • Always Reforming – The church must continually examine itself against Scripture and be willing to change when we've drifted from biblical teaching.

  • Priesthood of All Believers – Every Christian has direct access to God through Christ and is called to serve him.

Life: God Rules Over Everything

As Creator and Sustainer of all things, God is the rightful King over every part of life. There's no divide between 'sacred' and 'secular.' Our work, families, hobbies, and daily decisions all matter to God. Christians are called to honour Christ as Lord in every area of life.

We are Reformed

We are Anglican

We're part of the Anglican Mission in England (AMiE), a group of churches committed to biblical, gospel-centred Anglicanism.

We seek to remain faithful to historic Anglicanism, particularly the 39 Articles of Religion, Canon A5, and the GAFCON Jerusalem Declaration.
